Illinois closures announced in WARN notices
Type an employer name or a city. 280 closures of 50 workers or more announced in Illinois WARN notices since January 2019.
Do you control the records of a company that has closed? Its internal data may still have value — see the data of a company that has stopped operating. Or a dated record report.
What this is
Under the federal WARN Act and Illinois's own rules, an employer must give notice before closing a site where 50 or more people lose their jobs. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity publishes those notices. This site lists the notices it marks as closures, received since January 2019, that affect 50 workers or more — with the employer, the city, the number of workers affected and the dates.
Who uses it
- Former employees and suppliers — when did this site close, and how many people did it employ?
- Researchers and journalists — which employers closed sites in Illinois, by sector and city?
- Former owners, trustees, acquirers — see the data of a company that has stopped operating.
- Other sources — California WARN closures; employers whose PPP loan was charged off.
What it is not
Not the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, not the employer. A WARN closure is the closure of one site, not always of the whole business: many employers keep operating elsewhere, and some closures are delayed or cancelled after the notice. The number of workers is the employer's own estimate in the notice. Being listed here does not mean a company has stopped operating.
